Asheville Beer Safari

Burial Beer Co

Burial, for some, is a necessary step to reach the afterlife. At Burial Beer Co., they see it as a celebration— of the cyclical nature of life, harvest and the brewing process. Their logo, a simple image of a sickle reminds patrons of their vision to become a farmhouse brewery and their connection to their namesake.

Currently Burial operates on a 10bbl brewhouse in downtown Asheville complete with a taproom, urban farm and beer garden and is in the process of opening a second location outside of the city of Asheville to operate a production brewery, urban farm, locally purveyed restaurant and a 2 story tasting room.

One thing we noticed while scouting out this tour was that locals, including brewers and staff from other breweries, like to hang out here. Once we tried the beer, we got it. We’re fairly certain you will, too!

Asheville Beer Safari

Wicked Weed Brewing

Wicked Weed’s website promise says it all: “Craft beer is in its nature an expression of the people… and in that we make beer for the people. Not just what people want but what will tempt them to experience something new. We craft beer that is creative, inspiring and above all extremely drinkable. Wicked Weed Brewing aspires to expands our consumers’ perspective of craft beer, and inspire them to fall in love with their pint. Hops will be excessive and flavor abundant. Our Belgians will be rustic and authentic. Our American styles will be dry and hoppy we promise. We will always push to be better brewers, make better beer and keep our patrons attention. We are so blessed to do something we love so much, so thank you for drinking Wicked Weed Brewing beer.”

Not only are the beers here great, but so is the food. We’ll be treated to both during our lunch and tasting here.

Wicked Weed Funkatorium

The Funkatorium ales pull inspiration from the Belgian Lambic. Their sour program focuses on using wine barrels from all over the country and aging on their proprietary Wicked Wild strain of yeast that their brewers have carefully blended over several years. These sour beers are defined by tartness, complexity, dryness and always, drinkability. Each beer in their “From The Funkatorium Series” will age in the barrel up to 3 years and then be blended to create a balanced yet unique experience for any palette.

If you like sours, Funkatorium is Sour Heaven in Asheville.

Catawba Brewing Co

Catawba Brewing, which has been making delicious beer in Western NC since 1999, opened their third location on April 1, 2015 in the South Slope brewery district of Asheville. The 5600 square foot space features many reclaimed materials for the seating and cooler wrap. The space has two very cool but distinct bar areas. The great hall has 24 taps and an indoor/outdoor space. The Rickhouse, or barrel room, has 5-6 barrel aged beers on tap. A covered patio and outdoor deck make this this location a year round destination for enjoying Catawba’s tasty suds and welcoming atmosphere.

We look forward to enjoying this perfect setting and Catawba’s beers during a gourmet beer-paired dinner created especially for our Beer Safari by award- winning chef, Michael McKnight of Chef Michael’s Catering.

Asheville Beer Tour Green Man Brewery

As one of North Carolina’s oldest breweries, Green Man has been producing award winning beer in Asheville since 1997. Their offerings are consistently recognized for quality as well as loyalty to traditional English styles and their brewers strive to bring innovative and exciting new flavors to us beer loving folks.

During last year’s tour, we were able to preview the new “Green Mansion”– a supersized expansion to their downtown brewery- with a 3 story, 18,000 sf packaging hall, specialty brew house, “brewtique” and an indoor/outdoor taproom loft overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains. You’ll have to decide for yourself which is more beautiful, the view into the brewery or the view from the brewery! Our “Green-Themed visit here will include a VIP guided brews and brines pairing with Green River Pickles!

New Belgium Brewery

New Belgium’s location in Asheville has finally come together with it’s amazing-looking digs parked right on the French Broad River and a tasting room called the Liquid Center.  During our private VIP visit, we will get an in depth view from the brewers themselves, a chance to check out the work of the local artists who helped give this brewery some Ashevillian vibes and some serious tasting opportunities as well.

Private Walking Tour of Asheville

Legendary Locals of Asheville Our Walking Tour

will be led by an Asheville native, historian and storyteller.  In fact, Kevan Frazer of Asheville Walking Tours is literally the “man who wrote the book” on Asheville.  His book, Legendary Locals of Asheville, is a collection of 150 biographical shorts on the women and men who founded, built and rebuilt Asheville.  Plan to experience Asheville’s history, architecture and culture beyond the beer and beyond what even most locals have been privy to.

Chocolate Factory Tour & Tasting

French Broad

French Broad Chocolates

When Ruth met Jael and Dan, the owners of French Broad Chocolates, and heard their story and tasted their wares, she knew that she had found the perfect complement to the breweries on our Asheville Beer Safari Weekend. French Broad is certainly part of the brewing community in Asheville- with its chocolate nibs finding their way into the hearts and creations of local brewers such as Green Man Brewing’s Chocolate Porter and Pisgah Brewing’s Chocolate Stout and Coffee Chocolate Stout, among others.

From hunting out high quality cacao from Central and South America for use in their delicious products to ensuring that every one of their mouth-watering chocolate bars is hand wrapped in a heavy gold foil with colorful grosgrain ribbon and a 100% recycled label, these two have a true passion for chocolate. It shows in their products and you’ll see- well, actually you’ll taste- this passion during our private factory tour and tasting at French Broad Chocolates.

Since a minimum number of passengers are required in order to run each trip, we suggest you refrain from non-refundable air purchases until 2 months prior to your departure date or confirmation of tour.
