|Cigar City Cider & Mead: Tour & Tasting
Cigar City, famous for putting Tampa on the craft beer map, has done it again with their new craft venture, Cigar City Cider and Mead, which opened in 2014 in the heart of Ybor City.
Jared Gilbert, the Head Cider and Mead Maker, first became an Assistant Winemaker at Keel & Curley Winery in Plant City in 2006. He jumped on that opportunity because of his love of winemaking. As a kid he used to watch his father make beer and mead in the basement of his house in Colorado. Within two years of starting as Assistant Winemaker he took over as Head Winemaker at Keel And Curley. Jared joined the Cigar City Brewing Team in 2012 and 2013 for a few collaborative projects and came on board full time in January of 2014.
With an incredible variety to tempt your taste buds, from “Death by Chocolate”- a chocolate cherry cider, to their “Homemade Apple Pie Cider” which was ranked as one of the Best Ciders in the World in 2014 by Rate Beer, this will be an exciting and no doubt delicious addition to this year’s itinerary!
|Tampa Bay Brewing: Tour,Tasting & Beer Paired Dinner
Tampa Bay Brewing Company has a line of 8 core and 38 seasonal proprietary beers. To complement their beer, they have a unique menu that goes well beyond your typical pub fare. Many menu items are beer-infused; they feature and highlight the signature Tampa Bay Brewing Company beers to create award-winning entrees and appetizers.
Tampa Bay Brewing Company was founded in 1995 to satisfy Tampa Bay’s thirst for a better beer and great food at a reasonable price. It’s still a family affair, with mother and son serving as general manager and brewmaster respectively, and still going strong winning awards for both their beer and food….which is why we love to host one of our beer paired meals here!
|Cigar City Brewing: Tour & Tasting
Do we really need to introduce these guys? CCB was founded by beer columnist and Tampa native Joey Redner in the summer of 2007. Since its inception CCB has been guided by Joey’s passion for both great beer and the city of his birth.
With the creative input and expertise of Great American Beer Festival and World Beer Cup award winning head brewer Wayne Wambles, Cigar City Brewing endeavors to make world class ales and lagers which celebrate the rich heritage and traditions that make Tampa one of the world’s most unique cities. With this goal in mind Cigar City Brewing incorporates local ingredients in the brewing process and always considers, during recipe creation, the local foods CCB beers are likely to be paired with. The result of this dedication is handcrafted beer that imparts a sense of place and pairs as well with gourmet cheeses as hearty Cuban sandwiches.
|7venth Sun Brewery: Tour & Tasting
7venth Sun is located in a tiny storefront location with a 3.5 bbl system brewing up Belgian-style beers, IPAs, spirit barrel-aged beer & oak-aged sour beer. Don’t let the small size of this operation fool you… there are some seriously world class beers coming out of here… definitely worthy of the pilgrimage many fans make from all over to enjoy them.
Devon Kreps graduated from Oregon State University with a degree in Fermentation Science. She brewed at Anheuser-Busch, leaving to become Production Manager at Sweetwater Brewing in Atlanta. Justin Stange brewed at Sweetwater and Cigar City in Tampa. They opened 7venth Sun in January of 2012 and have been creating amazing brews ever since.
|Dunedin Brewery: Tour, Tasting & Lunch (with beer, of course!)
Fermenting since 1996 and still going strong, Dunedin Brewery, located on the west coast of Florida in the Scottish heritage town of Dunedin handcrafts all of their ales for your enjoyment from their Piper’s Pale Ale to their Apricot Wheat.
They also have a great menu including the most awesome Pacific Coast Fish Tacos you will find east of Baja! With great atmosphere, great food and 9 ales brewed year round as well as 5 or more seasonal offerings throughout the year, this is our kind of lunch stop!
|Saint Somewhere Brewing: Tour & Tasting
Saint Somewhere is a small batch brewery, located in Tarpon Springs, Florida, which specializes in traditionally brewed, hand-crafted farmhouse ales. All of their ales are bottle-conditioned and unfiltered and all beers are open fermented with the help of “Free Range Tarpon Springs Brettanomyces”. Despite the homage to Belgium by the strict use of Belgian malt & wheat and whole noble hops, Bob Sylvester, owner and brewer, adds a little bit of Florida by open fermentation as well as by using old Florida advertising art on his labels. The stuff inside the bottles is as much art as the labels.
And of course, the name Saint Somewhere comes from a Jimmy Buffett song, so let’s be real, Belgian may be at the heart of it, but this beer has Florida soul!
|The Wild Rover Pub & Brewery: Tasting & Beer Paired Dinner
In an attempt to bring the character and feel of an old English pub to Tampa, father and son team Derek and Ricky Wells founded The Wild Rover Pub & Brewery as a local place for people to come and socialize, while enjoying a finely crafted local beer. They specialize in English, Irish and Scottish styles on their 15 barrel brewing system and have a focus on cask conditioned ales. Not only are their beers delicious, but they have great names as well, such as Let it ESB -their English Bitter, John Barleywine Must Die -an English Barleywine, Locomotive Breath – an Irish Red and Stairway to Hefe’n -a Dry-Hopped Wheat Ale.We’ll be enjoying a number of their beers as well as their highly rated food during a beer paired dinner created especially for our group.
|Tarpon Springs Visit and Cruise
Visit Florida’s authentic Greek village and dive into the history of sponge diving. In the early part of the 20th century, Tarpon Springs was known as the “Sponge Capital of the World”. The sponge industry was the largest industry in Florida—surpassing even citrus and tourism. The Greek divers that came over to harvest the sponges created this lovely Greek heritage town that is a special part of Florida to this day. And although sponge harvesting died down after a blight affected the growth of sponges in the 1940’s, new beds were found in the 80’s and Tarpon Springs is once again among the leaders in sponge harvesting.
Weather permitting, we’ll be able to take a cruise on the Anclote river to see a demonstration of sponge harvesting with a live diver in traditional diving equipment! Afterwards we’ll have some time to wander along the shops on the Sponge Docks and Dodecanese Blvd, try some delicious Greek pastries or grab a beer and enjoy the scene.

We’re continually looking for ways to improve our tours and we sometimes come across a special new pub or brewery since the itinerary was published that we’d like to share with you. Since our beer tours are planned far in advance, we may occasionally adjust the itinerary as necessary to provide you with the best trip possible! Since a minimum number of passengers are required in order to run each trip, we suggest you refrain from non-refundable air purchases until 2 months prior to your departure date or confirmation of tour.
