Annie & Jason’s Wedding Beercation

Day by Day Itinerary

Saturday May 12, 2018 Brussels to Bruges |

Arrival at Brussels airport. Coach will pick up pax arriving this morning for a group transfer to Bruges. (Guests arriving later will make their way over to Bruges  individually.) On the way into Bruges, we will make a stop in Brussels at Cantillon for those guests wishing to visit here and then on to drop the rest of our guests at the Grand Place.  From here you can explore the chocolate shops, great pubs, the museum of brewing or even a museum where there are over 950 costumes from around the world for Brussels’ iconic Mannekin Pis statue. After everyone has had ample time for some sightseeing, shopping and lunch, we will hop back on our coach at 2:30 and head to our hotel in Bruges. Relax and unpack for a bit and then we will take a short stroll over to De Halve Maan brewery where we have scheduled a privately guided tour for our group early this evening.  The tour  is very entertaining as we tour through what is actually part new brewery and part old brewery and museum.  And the guide we use is one of the best in all of Belgium.  We will have the opportunity to go all the way to the top of the brewery where we will be rewarded with a magnificent view over all of Bruges!  This evening, you are on your own to explore and maybe even get your first taste of Flemish food or any other wonderful cuisine at one of the great restaurants in town. After dinner if you are not too jet-lagged from the trip overseas, you can head out with your Beercation app maps for some beer hunting!

Sunday May 13 Bruges  | (B)

De Dolle Brouwers

Breakfast is served at hotel then you’ll have free time on your own to tour this fabulous medieval town.  At 11:30 we’ll hop on our coach to head off to Westvleteren, where monks brew what is widely acclaimed as “the best beer in the world”. Here we will taste their famous beer (first round included!) in their In de Vrede cafe, where you can also get some lunch.  You will also have time to shop for some nice beer and souvenirs in their shop and for those who are interested, there is a possibility of joining the monks for their short afternoon prayer service.   Then we will board our motorcoach for a visit to De Dolle Brouwers , where you’ll meet Kris Herteleer, the brewer, for a tour of this unique family brewery that is part museum of historic brewing equipment and part art gallery (Kris is an artist). Afterwards, we’ll relax in their eclectic tasting room and enjoy some of their tasty brews.  This evening is yours to enjoy dinner on your own and to check out some of the local pubs with the aid of your Beercation app maps.

Monday May 14 Bruges and Rodenbach Wedding Day! | (B,D)

This morning we will have a privately guided biking excursion around Bruges.  Then you are free to have lunch, shop, or maybe take a canal tour with one of the canal boats for a different view of this lovely town.  We will leave for Rodenbach and the wedding at 3:15 pm today (our estimated ride time is 35-45 min).  We’ll be busy touring this historic and amazing brewery while Annie and Jason are taking some photos, then we’ll gather for the ceremony that brought us all here.  Afterwards, we will celebrate in style with an amazing beer (or wine) paired dinner in between the foeders at Rodenbach

Tuesday May 15, Bruges to Ghent | (B,L)

We will be heading to Ghent today after breakfast and making some great stops along our route!  First will be a visit to Brouwerij Verhaeghe, the brewery best known for their delicious Flemish red-brown ale called Duchesse de Bourgogne.  We will stop here for a private tour and (of course) tasting. Then we are off to the town of Gottem, Belgium’s own “Gotham City”, to meet a very special brewer known as Dr. Canarus. Dr C’s beers are out of this world amazing and his quirky personality makes visiting Brouwerij Sint Canarus all the more fun. We’ll enjoy a traditional Flemish lunch here along with some great beer before heading to Ghent.    In Ghent, we will drop our luggage at our hotel then take a short stroll to meet up with our canal boat tour, which is a nice way to see Ghent from a different view.  After the canal tour we’ll  finish with a tasting of Jenever, a locally made liquor, at the world famous ‘t Dreuplekot.  (This is also conveniently located next to a great beer bar, called Waterhuis.) Your Beercation app will serve you well tonight, as there are some amazing pubs that you must visit while you are here in Ghent.

Wednesday May 16 Ghent | (B)

After a delicious breakfast in our hotel, you’ll have the day free to explore Ghent, or take a train to explore other great nearby cities such as Antwerp– diamond capital of Belgium and home to Kulminator and other awesome beer bars as well as museums, a zoo and  shopping galore, Mechelen -home of Brouwerij Het Anker, or Leuven-the student city known for its huge and lively bar scene!
