Name: Sculpin India Pale Ale
Style: American IPA
Brewery: Ballast Point Brewing Company website
Country: USA
Region: San Diego, California.
ABV: 7.0%
How served: 22oz capped bottle poured into a Stone IPA glass.
My Overall Opinion: Amazing.
I paired this beer with: nothing
Tasted on: Sunday November 15, 2009
Note: This bottle says “Limited Release”, but it isn’t a onetime only release. Wow! What a nose on this beer & it has the taste to match. It is as good as it gets when it comes to IPA’s. The 7% ABV is very hidden, so be careful if you plan on drinking a few of these bombers in one sitting as it is very drinkable.
“The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employee and brewers, the Sculpin I.P.A. is bright with aromas or apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took the Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.” “Get the Point!”
