Why Munich?

Munich’s brewing history dates back to 1158, when the Duke of Bavaria granted the city the right to brew beer. Over centuries, the brewing legacy grew, with monasteries playing a crucial role in perfecting the craft. Munich’s brewing culture was further elevated by the famous “Reinheitsgebot” purity law of 1516, ensuring the use of only the finest ingredients—barley, hops, and water. This commitment to quality helped Munich’s beer reach international acclaim.

In the 19th century, Munich’s brewers revolutionized beer with the creation of lager, particularly the Märzen style, and in 1810, the city introduced the world-famous Oktoberfest. Today, Munich continues to be a hub of innovation and tradition, with its iconic beer gardens and festivals drawing beer lovers from around the world.  (Photo Source_ Bayerische Staatsbrauerei Weihenstephan)

    Spaten Brewery Visit
Danube Christmas Market Cruise Pre-TourOur first stop is the historic Spaten Brewery, founded in 1397. As one of Germany’s oldest breweries, Spaten has a rich legacy in brewing history, including creating the world’s first Helles beer in 1894. This smooth, mild lager became a response to the rising popularity of Czech Pilsners and has remained a staple in Munich’s beer culture ever since. During the visit, enjoy a guided tour, learn about the brewery’s centuries-old techniques, and taste the fresh Spaten beers, paired with a light lunch at the brewery.

    Transfer to Weihenstephan Brewery
Photo Source_ Bayerische Staatsbrauerei WeihenstephanNext, we head to the Weihenstephan Brewery, the world’s oldest continuously operating brewery, founded in 1040. Located in Freising, near Munich, this historic brewery has been producing beer for over 1,000 years, originally as part of a Benedictine monastery. The guided tour will take you through the historic site, showcasing the innovation and tradition that has made Weihenstephan a beacon of Bavarian brewing excellence. Enjoy a beer tasting in their scenic beer garden, where you’ll savor world-class Bavarian beers. (Photo Source_ Bayerische Staatsbrauerei Weihenstephan)

Start your day with a relaxing breakfast at the Eurostars Book Hotel, and get ready for another full day of exciting brewery visits, authentic Bavarian culture, and beautiful scenery!

    Visit the Ayinger Brewery
Our first stop takes us to the renowned Ayinger Brewery, founded in 1878 in the Bavarian village of Aying, just outside Munich. Known for its commitment to traditional brewing methods, Ayinger has earned a reputation for producing some of the finest lagers and wheat beers. One of its most famous brews, Celebrator Doppelbock, is a rich, malty beer with global acclaim. Enjoy a guided tour of the brewery and indulge in a beer tasting, sampling award-winning brews made with pristine Alpine water and locally sourced ingredients.

Transfer to Kloster Andechs (Andechs Monastery)
Next, we head to Kloster Andechs, a stunning monastery perched atop the Holy Mountain. Here, we will enjoy lunch at the Andechs Bräustüberl, where you can savor hearty Bavarian dishes while enjoying views of the breathtaking Alpine landscape. The monastery is famous for its Andechser beer, brewed by Benedictine monks using traditional methods, and this lunch offers a perfect opportunity to experience both the delicious food and the rich brewing tradition.

    Visit the Andechs Brewery
After lunch, we will take a guided tour of the Andechs Brewery, located within the monastery. Brewing beer since the 15th century, Andechs produces exceptional Trappist-style beers, including the beloved Andechser Doppelbock Dunkel, known for its deep malt complexity. The monks still follow centuries-old brewing practices, using pure Alpine water and high-quality ingredients. Discover the brewery’s history and craftsmanship before enjoying a beer tasting with fresh brews served at the Klostergasthof while surrounded by stunning Alpine views.
