Oktoberfest & Bamberg Beer Experience 2026
This is the kind of trip we’re always talking about—real Bavaria, great beer, and the kind of experiences you just don’t get on your own.
For our 2026 Oktoberfest & Bamberg tour, we’re taking you straight into Germany’s beer heartland, starting in Bamberg—one of the true beer capitals of the world—before heading to Munich for Oktoberfest. Along the way, you’ll experience both sides of German beer culture: the small, traditional breweries of Franconia and the full-on energy of Oktoberfest.
We’ve built this trip the way we like to travel—plenty of incredible beer stops (yes, including classic rauchbier taverns, Weltenburg Abbey and Weihenstephan Brewery), amazing local food, and time to actually enjoy where you are. There’s space to explore, shop for traditional Bavarian outfits for Oktoberfest (think lederhosen and dirndls), wander historic streets, and soak it all in without feeling rushed.
And of course, we wrap it all up the right way—with a reserved evening inside a tent at Oktoberfest. Live music, big beers, shared tables—it’s everything you want it to be, but done the BonBeer way.
This one is a little special. We worked closely with a trusted, locally rooted partner—someone who grew up in Bavaria and has deep connections across the beer scene—to build this itinerary specifically for the Bon Beer Voyage community. It’s how we’re able to open doors, skip the guesswork, and give you a more behind-the-scenes version of this region than most travelers ever see.
Bottom line: this isn’t just Oktoberfest—it’s the full Bavaria experience, done right, with the people who know it best.
Day by Day Itinerary
Friday, September 25th – Bamberg Included meals: Dinner
Arrival in Bamberg and hotel check-in
We’ll be staying at a beautiful historic hotel right along the river—just steps from Bamberg’s UNESCO-listed old town and plenty of incredible beer spots.
In the late afternoon, meet your fellow travelers and tour director in the lobby and get to know the group before we head out for the evening.
We start things off on a high note with what is sure to be one of many memorable visits of the trip—a night at Brauerei Schlenkerla.
This is one of the most iconic breweries in Germany and the place to experience Bamberg’s famous rauchbier. If you’ve never had a smoked beer before… this is the one. It’s bold, a little surprising at first, and completely tied to the local tradition.
Dinner is right there at Schlenkerla, so you can settle in, grab a Märzen or Urbock, and ease into Bamberg the proper way.
Saturday, September 26th – Bamberg Included meals: Breakfast, Dinner
After breakfast, we head out for a guided walking tour of Bamberg—one of Germany’s most beautiful and best-preserved cities, and a UNESCO World Heritage site. You’ll get a feel for the history, the layout, and how deeply beer culture is woven into everyday life here (spoiler: very).
Lunch is on your own, which is really just an excuse to explore a bit, follow your instincts, and maybe “accidentally” find yourself in another brewery—which, in Bamberg, tends to happen.
The afternoon is yours to enjoy at your own pace. If you’re looking to get into the Oktoberfest spirit, this is a great opportunity to pick up authentic Bavarian Tracht—lederhosen or a dirndl—but it’s entirely up to you. Browsing the shops and seeing what’s out there is part of the fun either way.
We’ll regroup in the evening for a relaxed group dinner back at the hotel—good food, good beer, and a chance to compare notes on the day.
Sunday, September 27th – Bamberg Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
After breakfast, you’ll have a free morning to relax, wander, or revisit any spots that caught your eye.
Late morning, we head to Klosterbräu Bamberg—the oldest brewery site in the city—for a visit and lunch. This is Franconian beer culture at its core: traditional, unpretentious, and all about enjoying great beer in a welcoming setting.
In the afternoon, we take a bit of time to explore Bamberg beyond the beer with a visit to the cathedral and surrounding historic sites—still very much part of what makes this place special.
You’ll have some free time afterward before we head to dinner at Brauerei Spezial, a local favorite known for its beautifully balanced beers, including a more approachable take on rauchbier along with excellent classic lagers.
Monday, September 28th – Transfer to Munich Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
After breakfast, we check out and make our way toward Munich—but not before one of the most scenic stretches of the trip.
We’ll take a boat cruise through the Danube Gorge, a dramatic and surprisingly peaceful stretch of river that leads us to Weltenburg Abbey, home to one of the oldest monastic breweries in the world. Not a bad place to have a beer.
We’ll have lunch at the monastery and some time to explore before continuing on to Munich and checking into our hotel.
That evening, we ease into Oktoberfest with a relaxed walk through Theresienwiese—the festival grounds where everything happens. It’s the perfect way to get your bearings before things get… a bit louder tomorrow.
We’ll wrap up the day with dinner at Augustiner Keller.
Tuesday, September 29th – Munich Included meals: Breakfast, Dinner
We start the day with a short guided walk through Munich’s historic center—just enough to get your bearings and take in a few highlights before the main event.
Lunch is on your own, which is a great chance to check out a classic like Hofbräuhaus München or wherever catches your eye.
Then it’s time.
In the evening, we head into Oktoberfest for our reserved tent experience. This is what you came for—and yes, it lives up to it.
Long communal tables, steins of Märzen coming fast, live brass bands, and entire tents singing along like they’ve known each other for years. It’s lively, social, a little chaotic—in the best possible way.
And the best part? You already know where you’re going, where you’re sitting, and how it all works—so you can skip the confusion and get straight to enjoying it.
Wednesday, September 30th – Munich/Freising Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch
Source: Bayerische Staatsbrauerei Weihenstephan
After breakfast, we head out to Weihenstephan Brewery—the oldest continuously operating brewery in the world.
We’ll have a guided tour and tasting here, giving you a look at both the history and the precision behind some of Bavaria’s most respected beers—especially their world-class weissbier.
We’ll have lunch at the brewery before returning to Munich, where the rest of the afternoon and evening are yours. Relax, explore, or, if you’re not quite done yet, head back to Oktoberfest for another round.
Thursday, October 1st – Munich/Andechs Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
After breakfast, we head out to Andechs Monastery, set high above the Bavarian countryside.
We’ll visit the brewery for a tour and tasting—this is one of the most beloved monastic breweries in Germany, known for its rich, malty beers (don’t miss the Doppelbock).
Lunch is at the monastery, and you’ll have some time to explore the grounds, visit the church, or just take in the views.
We return to Munich in the afternoon, with a bit of time to relax before our farewell dinner—one last chance to raise a glass together and wrap up the trip the right way.
Friday, October 2nd – Munich Food: Breakfast
We close things out the proper Bavarian way—with a traditional Weißwurst breakfast at a classic Munich spot.
Sausages, pretzels, sweet mustard, and a morning weissbier… because at this point, it would feel strange not to have a beer before noon.
Afterward, we return to the hotel for check-out and onward journeys.
