Beer # 119 Laughing Dog’s Devil Dog

Laughing Dog's Devil Dog

Name:  Devil Dog

Style:  Imperial IPA

Brewery: Laughing Dog Brewing website

Country:  USA

Region:  Ponderay, Idaho

ABV: 10.0% Abv

How served: 22oz capped bottle poured into a Stone Levitation glass.

My Overall Opinion: Very Good.

I paired this beer with:  absolutely nothing.

Tasted on:  Tuesday June 8th, 2010.

Note:    This is another Imperial IPA which could be mistaken for an American Barleywine.   This brew poured with a nice fluffy head which left some very nice lacing on the glass.  The nose is sweet carmel with a hint of grapefruit rind.  The taste is well balanced, you get hit by the sweetness from the malts 1st then you get a milder than expected bitterness from the hops, which were both spicy and piney.  The mouthfeel was of a medium viscosity which coated the tongue in a pleasant way & had a nice level of carbonation.   This beer improved as it warmed as I anticipated it would.  The 10% abv was surprisingly not noticed in the taste.   This Devil of a Dog is worth finding and enjoying anytime of the year.  If it wasn’t for the 10% abv I would be looking to having another one ,but this is a school night.

On the Label:  Devil Dog Imperial IPA (Diabolus Canis Imperiosus IPA)

The Devil Dog will chew you up and leave you whimpering for more.

At 98 IBU’s and 7 pounds of hops to the barrel it is an all out assault on the senses.
Devil Dog Started as a labor of love but quickly took on a life of its own – leaving us drooling like Pavlov’s dogs at the mere mention of its name.
Triple dry hopped for that over the top hop flavor, more than one of these bad boys will cause you to howl at passing strangers and chew up your toys, or anything else you can get your sharp little teeth on.

Hops: Columbus, Northern Brewer, Ahtanum, Cascade and Simcoe
Malt: Pale, Carmel and Munich
